round baler opinion, several models

there is a consignment auction coming up that has the following round balers for sale, all in good or better condition, what are pros - cons? I run JD336 square balers currently.
Case 8420, Vermeer 5400, New Holland 644, Heston 730.

I can only speak for the 644- I have one, and it's a twine burner. The double tie is close to as fast as a net wrap, and not as expensive. It's simple enuf that it's easy to work on , and can pump out a lot of hay in a day. I have mine set at 4 1/2 feet, and the bales come out at around 700#, and tight. Good baler....

Brother had a CaseIH 8420. Makes a little smaller bale, only 39 inches wide, and has a low power requirement. Also kinda low capacity and not well suited for balage, but an OK baler for a smaller scale farmer.

Case 8420 and Hesston 730 are basically the same baler- 39"x54" bale chamber, simple to work on. Have never been able to get a 54" diameter roll, usually about 48" to 50". They weigh about 300-350 lb.(fescue). We roll 250-300 rolls/year. Can find them around here 3000-5000 dollars.

There' no way any rd baler that wraps with twine is "close to as fast" as a netwrap baler PERIOD!

Depending on how many wraps the netwrap attach. is set for(2 wraps is normal) which equates to 2 full revolutions of the bale and tailgate on baler is opened(avg 8 seconds to stop, wrap, eject bale & start baling). Netwrap is an easy 25% faster than twine when going 5 MPH and a larger % faster than twine at higher ground speeds.

I had a Vermeer hard to start a bale had the local Vermeer dealer go thru it. Was even worse when I got it back. Took me most of an afternoon to make it work when I should have been baling....thanks vermeer

Not an expert on any of them, but I've had very good luck with my Vermeer. That is the brand I'll go with if/when I go to a newer machine.

Jim, I didn't say it was as fast- just very near.
My 644 will signal me, put 20 wraps of twine on and
eject and reset in 30 seconds, and I'm going again.
Net is a bit faster, and in comparison to a single
twine arm , or an electric tie (like a 484 NI),
it's blazing.

Twine tying arms aren't NEAR AS FAST! If you think twin tying arms is blazing then you can't envision how fast netwrap is!!! 25% FASTER. 10 more netwrap bales in an hour than twine wrapped bales means 100 more bales baled in a 10 hr baling day.
