Can't remember the correct Loc tight for splines???

I have a splined shaft that has a hub that is held on with a nut. It does not run very fast. The nut came lose and it wore the splines some. The whole machine is not worth the cost of a new shaft and hub (over $1000).

I remember using a loc tight product on truck differential yokes. You cleaned both the shaft and yoke. Then you sprayed a primer on both. Then applied the Loc tight. This really worked well.

I can't remember the number or the exact name of the products. I would need the primer and Loc tight both.
 
This is the locktite I used on the yoke on my hydraulic cylinder on my garden tractor. I didn't use any primer just cleaned the threads and install the nut. It has never came loose again after applying locktite. Hal
PS: It may need a little heat to get it off.

I would use the Red (263) the primer is a cleaning product I used brake cleaner to get the parts clean. Is the splined shaft worn too much and looking to build up the shaft I think they make some thing for that as well.I think this is what you want

680 (the dark green stuff) I think is the number. Hub and bearing retainer. If it doesn't run too fast it might work.... for a while.

Forget the number, but there is one LocTite Product( Maybe Several), that is silver colored in a tube, that will fill gaps up to ten thou or more. It will set up aneroebically just like the other grades of LocTite. I have used it to fix some loose bushings, with good success..
 
Quick metal. Good stuff for the right application.Sets up like steel. Get you out of a jam when keyways or cut down shaft need to be remachined. If done proper, lasts a long time.

242 is removable. 272 is red thread locker. 609 is a retaining compound. Most times you have to use heat to remove. Tapered splines I use anti seize so I can get it apart next time.

The primer is NOT a cleaner, it actually does react and make the loctite work better. However, they have since come out with a primerless one as well (we use lots and lots of blue loc-tite at work) that doesn't require the primer.

We had a Loc-tite rep come in to our shop a couple years ago and he gave us a few demos. The primer does something to the metal ions on the bolt, hub, whatever and it makes them more available to react and adhere w/ the loctite. Brake clean actually gets the bolts too clean and you're better off leaving them covered in oil. (had a working demo of that as well)

With the primerless Loc-tite, it's a different story and getting the bolts clean w/ brake clean is ok.

Can't help with the numbers, but it's the green hub & bearing stuff.

John Deere sells the Loctite that uses a primer. I bought primer and Loctite just through Deere just about a year ago to tighten up the front pto drive shaft pulley on my JD 400 garden tractor. I have compared prices on Loctite between the Deere dealer and Napa and they are about the same.
