Mouse poison

Okay, it's that time of year again. Mice are making their way back into my house. I have mixed up the poison and they still eat it like candy (Ramik, Tomcat).

Thought about Antifreeze, it kills other animals.

Was thinking about filling a quart jar chick water with antifreeze and put in an area the mice frequent.

BTW, no pets to worry about.

What do y'all think?

Thanks

Greg

Just got the water jar filled and placed with antifreeze. I hope this works, otherwise, I'll just resort to catching and releasing black snakes in my house. That tends to work best,

Buddy said to mix antifreeze and corn meal. I am getting traps Monday.

I got one in shop over winter, he got into box of hickory nuts, I have found them stuffed everywhere.

I believe it was early last year they reformulated antifreeze so animals weren't attracted to it. I've had good luck with a product called Just one bite.

I hate the poison, seems they always used to die somewhere and reek to high levels of a nice rank stench. I remember finding a ripe one in a tool tray once, on a lower shelf. Multi catch live traps, are my preference if there's any number of them around, or the bucket with the ramp and rod through the top with a spinner can, baited, those do work well, even the the version I use for the chipmunks, a ramp to the 2/3 full 5 gallon bucket with a sprinkle of sunflower seeds on top, they will dive in after it. The seed sours the water and sinks in a short time, but I've had both mice and chipmunks caught at the same time when placed outside.

Billy NY- I have built three of those bucket/ pop can setups baited with peanut butter and only caught one mouse.

Thanks

Stephan Newell- I will try your suggestion also. I just ordered a 8 Lb. bucket of chunks.

These mice drive me nuts. I clean up every area and they still come in

I use mouse traps with the metal bait holder. The ones with the plastic holder are junk.
For bait I use the ring from smoked Gouda cheese. They cannot resist it. You need to change the bait every 3-4 days for maximum effect.

I had some mice in the shop. I bought some of the blue Dcon pellets and all I found was little blue droppings all over. I ended up putting an open bag in a place and put a mouse trap in front of it. That helped, then I didn't have to keep buying pellets.

Had an exterminator tell me best solution is to keep them out of the house in the first place.

Walk around the house, look up under the edges where they get in. Expanding foam over screen wire or hardware cloth the large holes, foam the small ones.

They smell and sense air currents moving through openings in walls. If they find an air leak, that's where they will chew through. If it's plugged with foam, they won't find it.

If it's an established trail, marked with their grease, it will need to be plugged with metal or cement.

They come from above too, under the eaves, attic vents, etc.

Have to remember, to us they are a nuisance, to them it's a matter of life and death!
