New milking parlor--photos

Here in western PA my brother has been moved into the new parlor for about a month now, my computer is just now back from the shop getting repaired so can now post pics. The first day was quite a chore but went better than I expected. The cows are now going in mostly on their own. He is milking about 80 cows in 1 3/4 hours compared to the 4 hours it took in the stanchions.

Very nice. Not the biggest fan of swing parlors (prefer doubles) but much better then stanchons!

Who did the work? Fisher and Thompson?

(quoted from post at 19:27:25 04/22/14) How does he get them to back in like that?

They don't back in, they walk in from the end then turn and put their heads into the openings in the gate. It does look a little more complicated than a double herringbone. Those look like some serious tanks. My neighbors had just one of the same size for the same number of milkers.

Nice tidy looking setup. I don't think I've ever seen a blue diamond parallel set up to swing before tho... Does he intend to double the units later on?

Are the cows backed up to a hi-tec pooper? Don't see any poo on floor. Our cows couldn't walk in the barn without tail in air.

That's a nice setup. Friend of mine works part time for a guy who has a 12 to a side setup. They're milking 600 head 3x, and the milk goes directly into the tanker after cooling. The driver just unhooks one trailer, shifts milk lines, hooks up to the other trailer and heads out again. That's a serious way to do it...

Really nice setup.

My uncles were dairymen in WI... in his later years one uncle added a milking parlor like this.

Nice to see it completed. That will really same some wear on his body.

How many head can his barn hold and is he going to increase his herd size?

I understand the parlour now.....most of our parlours have the cows coming in one end and out the other. We mostly feed meal in the parlour on a feed to yield basis to top up what the cows get through the feeder wagon (TMR). Our parlours are all herringbone, some are quick release like this one but still in a herringbone format. That is one real nice set-up.....tell your brother I wish him health to enjoy!!!!!

looks especially nice after recently visiting my amish friend in ohio. I respect the amish lifestyle and all, but there's certainly something to be said for electric lights.

Wow. I remember seeing pictures before the footers were poured. That truly is state of the art. Congrats to your brother, and hopefully many years of successful production.

Very, very, very well done.

Very nice. My Parlor was set up similar. A double twelve side by side only they exited out the other end when you released the head stalls. I like the forward exit he has there. Not such a traffic jam when you turn them loose. My equipment wasn't quite as nice. Sure makes me miss the dairy. Milking was my favorite part of the day. Nice and peaceful.
