Many of those buildings were probably there when my ancestors left sometime in the 1800's, probably just about 1850 or so.

Hi Sam,
Nice photos, thanks for sharing.
Are the streets of Edinburgh still all under
construction? Traffic was chaos when we were there a
few years ago. Great city, lots of history.

Not every street, just a few! Even Royal Mile does not escape.....The workmen were re-laying the cobbles and square sets right up to the castle after a new water mains had been installed. We have a lot of road repairs on our streets here as new cables and water mains are laid(old iron water pipes are rotten! and we are getting lpg and fibre-optic cables everywhere) With our compact, narrow roads and narrow or non existant verges, most of the trenches have to be dug in the roadway!

Sam, thanks for the guided tour! I am assuming that the gatelodge is where the gatekeeper lives? I would be happy to live in a miniscule bungalow such as that. The gentleman's house would be a bit much for the upkeep. And, is that the name of the cattle? Some sturdy looking livestock!

Good Morning Sam

Enjoyed your pictures , would like to go there someday . While in the service they always sent me to the far East .
Always put in for Europe but no dice .
