Finally had to bite the bullet

Been watching the rears on the handy little SC for quite a few years, knowing those big cracks in the sidewalls would some day take a bite out of the tube. I've been kind of looking out of one eye for another set of tires but they never fell in my lap so I rode it out till the bitter end, and the end came last Monday. The new Firestones will be here tomorrow and should last me out, or at least they had better last me out for what they cost!!. The Firestones were $100 more per tire more than the off brands but I have a fairly good feeling about the choice. The rims are cleaned up and coated with epoxy primer that's had a good chance to harden so I shouldn't have tubes glued to the rim some day. The old ones came off a junked Farmall H twenty years ago so I guess they don't owe me anything, but the new ones still take quite a bit out of the pocket book! Jim

It's indeed a 48 SC Case. The serial Is 5219905. The hydraulics came off a newer SC. Dad bought it not running in 1971. A different mag and carb got it going again and it hasn't failed us since then as far as the major stuff goes. Jim

The step is real handy. I use this tractor for rock picking so I'm on and off the seat more times than I can count when the .rocks are 'in season'. I designed it it rest on the drawbar but I didn't realize it would act as a sounding board for drawbar noise. Jim

I had to do the same thing on a Farmall H about three years ago. The new tires and tubes cost more than I would have been willing to pay for the whole tractor, but the tractor was worthless without tires on it. Really doesn't matter that I have more money invested in that tractor than what it is worth, because it most likely will not be sold until it goes up on an estate auction.
