Wasp, 2 pennies and duct tape.

What does a wasp, 2 pennies and duct tape have to do with this post? Well today a wasp got me on the wrist, 2 times. I taped two pennies to where the wasp nailed me and shortly after, the pain went away.

I have no idea what copper has to do with killing the pain. I was told this would work and sure enough it did.

LOL, I also have duct tape wrapped around my wrist today. Was out trimming some trees when a dead branch scratched my wrist. Being on low dose aspirin, I bleed very easy, and being sweaty, the band aid didn't want to stick, so duct tape over the band aid did the trick.

Ah but was they old pennies of new ones?? If a new one not likely to have much copper in them.
By the way better you then me I might be in the hospital if I had that happen

George, I am surprized. From reading many of your past posts I would have expected you to have conducted an experiment; for example, tape a penny on one of the sting sites and let the other untreated - just to see if the untreated site continued to hurt. I mean this as a compliment.

It was a good think I didn't get 3 stings or I
would have a control group. I only had 2 pennies
in the truck, a 2013 and a 2014. For all I know,
the pennies may have not done the trick, instead
the duct tape sucked the sting out:)

I am thinking of doing a another experiment with
pennies and duct tape. When I was a kid, I knew an
old farmer who had two copper wires around his
wrists. His wrists were discolored because of the
copper ions. He claimed it reduced his arthirtus
pain. Well I have a lot of pain in my right hand
and wrist. I think I'll tape many pennies to right
wrist and see if it really works.

Anyone else ever see people using copper wire to
reduce arthritus pain? Does it really work? How
will I have a control group with only one hand
working? Use nickles, times and quarters?

Hmm. Wonder if I let a wasp sting my arthritic toes, then taped a penny on 'em, would the arthritis still hurt?

Big Fred,
I think I've heard where people let bees sting them and they claim it helps their arthritus.

Years ago an old man had a gas station where it was common to clean spark plugs and put them back in the car. The spark plug cleaner also had a coils set up to apply a spark to plug so you could see if the plug was good. Well every morning he would fire up his spark plug tester and shock one finger at a time. He claimed it helped his arthritus.

I think if I hit my finger with a hammer, the pain from the hammer might hide my arthritus pain.

I don't think I want to put my finger on a mower spark plug when it's running. I really don't hit my finger with a hammer on purpose either. However some of you who want to expriment may tell me how the spark plug or hammer works for you.

As for me Bee sting vs arthritus, I'll try pennies tomorrow. Doubt if it really helps.

Arthritic people were wearing copper bracelets back when I was a kid, before the modern anti-inflammatories. Maybe it did work, I can't prove it one way or the other. When I was younger a wasp sting would hurt like crazy and then start itching a couple of days later. Now at the age I am I just feel a pinch for awhile and then it's gone for good. Usually they nail me on the top of the ear. I hear that airy sounding buzz and then PINCH! When I was five years old or so I was nailed fifteen times on the back by wasps. I was following dad around and he picked up a cement block with a wasp nest in it. He dropped the block and ran when the wasps came out but for some reason I froze in my tracks and they took their aggression out on me and I wasn't wearing a shirt. Mom said I acted a little funny and my eyes dilated but that was the only effect it had on me.

The bee stings do actually increase your body's natural cortisone level, similar to a cortisone shot. Now, as to the concentration and being able to direct the venom, that may be a different issue. My dad raised bees and in his learning stages I remember pulling 39 stingers out of his belly one night. He's 93 and no arthritis. Coincidence? I dunno

If you did the test, you would have to have used a placebo unless you have congressmen in your pocket like the drug companies to get it fast tracked.

The pennies you used in your "experiment" were 97.5% ZINC with a very thin copper plating on them. Back in 1982, the US mint stopped using the full copper planchets for stamping out pennies due to the high cost of copper. Currently, there is more copper in any other coin than in a penny. Even a nickel is 75% copper. A dime is 8-1/3% nickel and the balance is copper. All other formerly silver coins have a similar composition as the dime.

I suggest that if you want to test the effectiveness of copper, you might want to use ANY OTHER coin than a penny, or use a penny dated previous to 1982.

While another coin may have more copper in it, I fail to see how it would do any good, seeing as how its mixed in with other metals and its buried inside the coin (clearly any copper inside the coin will do nothing for helping the bee sting). If the theory is: copper will make the sting go away quicker, wouldnt you want the largist percentage of copper touching your skin? If so, a penny is the only way you can get that. While pre-1982 pennys are almost all copper, certainly a modern zinc penny with a copper wash would be just as good. Unless you are adding more details to this bee sting theory than is being posted here....

Another way to look at it is this: you can buy a fake American Silver Eagle coin on Ebay, these are usually copper coins with a silver wash on it, making it 99.9% copper and .1% silver. If the theory is copper makes the sting go away, you wouldnt put a fake ASE on your bee sting even though its well over 99% copper because the silver is all thats touching the bee sting. Think about it...

George, find a few 1981 or earlier pennys and go kick that bees nest again, we want to know how this turns out. Post the video on youtube. Thanks in advance.

Whenever I get stung by a wasp, I hop around on one foot for fifteen seconds, and soon after the pain goes away. It works every time.
