Mower no go

Cub cadet mower Briggs & Stratton engine replaced primer balb and spark plug, now it will start if I prime it 5 times. Runs for a few sec then dies unless I keep pumping primer balb. Once engine is warmed up it will run fine. I took apart and cleaned the carb best I could. Anyone have ideas. I think it needs a new carb. I don't understand why it's not getting gas until it warms up. I don't know the engine model it's not stamped on the cover. there is a steady stream of gas from the gas tank. I posted on the Garden tractor site as well

IS this a push mower???? IF it is then you need to replace the gasket between the carburetor and the block. There is small port in that gasket that makes the carb suck fuel. IF that gasket is bad the motor will not run without priming it all of the time.

Here's my routine for starting one that has sat too long with ethanol-laced 'gas' in the tank - 1-Dump the tank, 2- refill w/fresh 'gas' (ethanol-free is preferred), 3-replace spark plug w/NEW one, 4- add 1/2 can of 'START' (available at TSC, AutoZone, etc.), 4-work primer bulb 3 or 4 times, 5- try to start. If it hits but doesn't start and run try to keep it running w/primer. If still 'no-go' let it sit for 24 hrs. (allows the 'START' to work) and try again. If it's still a 'no-go' THEN remove the recoil starter and spin the crankshaft with a 1/2" drill-motor fitted with an adapter and appropriate socket. This has worked over a 1/2 dozen times for me :) In your case I think that the addition of the 'START' will clean her up and let her keep running if you start and work the primer as you describe. I assume that you have checked the gasket as 'JD Seller' advised. Good luck to you!

If your engine is the flathead Briggs, the model number is probably stamped on the flange directly over the muffler. It is probably covered by another plastic cover. If not there, it is by the sparkplug. If it has the new plastic carburetor, the number is on the carb. mount bracket for some reason.

Get all 3 numbers, sometimes you need them all to get the correct carburetor.
