OT - Tarp Recommendations

I have a chance to buy a portable quonset hut frame for cheap. It is something on the order of 20 ft wide and 30 ft long and 10 ft high.

Given there is only a framing - it would need a cover. Question is - any particular tarp/material you would recommend?

I use tarps to cover wood piles, etc and they don't last very long in the sun. Surely there is a better tarp/material out there.

Might use this quonset hut as a big drive through tarp that I can put some of my tractor implements in and free up some space for hay - or maybe store some hay in it.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

I don,t have photos but have three of what you are talking about, that have been up for 5 or 6 years. What I used was old billboard vynil . They are advertised on the net or check with you local billboard company. Mine have really made for cheap storage. I still have two 32 ft wide by 45 ft long frames to get covers for. If you want to shop look at www.TekSupply.com they offer any cover you want.

If you have a grain elevator near you that stores grain on the ground they usually use a heavy duty plastic as a tarp. If I need some I put my name in so when they remove it they will save some for me or put it in a dumpster. It is replaced each year but I think it would last 4 or 5 years and the price is right as its free.

If the tarps are easy to get on and off...buy cheap. I bought 4 tarps to cover the front of the pole barn..custom cut for less than 35 bucks. Taken the heat, south wind all summer and grommets are still tight..no weave displacement. 5 - 8 mil I believe.

Not wanting to steal this thread, but I might be interested in some of the billboard tarps. My email is open---yours isn"t. Keith

Thanks everyone for your replies!!!!!!

If I get the portable quonset, I'll post a pic!
