After hours at the USS Arizona memorial

I just got this link in an email from an old Navy buddy. I never knew they did burials/internments onboard the wreckage of the wreckage of the ship. It does appear that the privilege is limited to those that served onboard when she was sunk, but still it's something I never knew.
USS Arizona memorial

I was an East Coast sailor, never had the opportunity to get out that way. I'm hoping that's a trip I get to make one of these days when I actually have the time, and the money, for a real vacation.

Thanks!!! NCWayne. I did not know this fact about the memorial.

I hope you are able to go there some day. IT is a very moving place. You can "feel" the souls of the men that perished that day.

I think it moved me as much as when I was able to visit the D-Day beaches at Normandy.

Visiting the Hawaiian Islands is a treat. I would recommend it to anyone. Just one caution. Things are very expensive there. Make sure you have a good handle on what it costs to vacation there. It cost us 50% more than we planned when we went there. That was not five starring it either. SO enjoy but plan well.

If anyone gets out to NC. Stop and see BB55 in Wilmington. Most decorated Battleship of WWII-the USS North Carolina. You can pretty much see the whole ship. My dad served on her.

The first time I was in Peral Harbor to visit the Arizona back in the early 1980's the Japanese nationalists were all over the thing, talking about the good old days I think. One would have thought that they won the war.

Next trip was a few years later. The USS Missouri was there, right by the Arizona, you you can actually step on the deck where the surrender happened. I did not see any nnalert.

According to historic naval ships, North Carolina is the most decorated U.S. battleship of World War II with 15 battle stars, having participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific from Guadalcanal to Tokyo Bay.

I have been there, the memorial is the most somber place I can ever remember visiting. God bless all the souls that were there on that horrible day.

My sister, a big time abundant cry baby, went to the Arizona while on vacation in Hawaii. She said the same about oriental tourist all over the place (probably Japanese) and how it wasn't a big deal until after she watched the movie they show as part of the tour. As soon as the lights came back on she was ready to kick everyone of them's arse.
