Alright, here is what I am looking at:

1st one is a 1941 G, tricycle front end. This one has a pan seat on it, but appears to be the "Early" styling like my B?? I thought that these tractors went from unstyled, to styled with the captains chair??

The second is a LATE styled A, but it has a CAST frame? It has the Captians chair, and the later style clutch drum/housing, but I thought that all of the LATE styled A's had a stamped steel frame??

Hey Bryce!Earlier styled tractors had pan seats. I believe the 'captains chair' appeared in '47.The stamped frame started in '47(I think).'47 was a major design change.There were baisicly 4 'a's,35-39 unstyled;39-46 hand start;39-46 electric start;47-51.My '44 styled A(hand start) has pan seat and cast frame I think the 'G' was a little 'behind' the A in some areas.There were probably some parts overlap during the modle changes/updates.Confused yet?
 
Pretty sure Gs were't styled till 40/41.The electric start had the open flywheel its entire production life.A,B got the fully enclosed flywheel in the '47 update
 
Also in the 47 update,the A,B went from a two stick shifter(3sp,hi/lo) to a single stick shifter(6 sp).G remained a two stick till the end.
 
Bryce; The G's are the most desirable.

And I really do like your term of "captains chair" I never really heard a term before for those types.We always called them battery under the seat. I think you may of came up with a good way to describe them. I'm going to copy it.
 
Is this G something you plan to use, or Look at?
They are a HORSE, but let me warn you, if you
plan to use, be prepared to feed it.
 
Bryce, the G's weren't styled until the '42 model year. Then, in order to raise the price for tooling changes etc. they designated them "GM" or G modernized. Because of WW2 there were Govt. restrictions. They became the G again in '46 or '47 after the war.
