Chevy Dumptruck

I recently wound up with a early 70's model C-60 dump truck that is in fair overall condition, it runs strong and the hoist and wet kit are strong, it is a real dump truck, not a grain bed dump and has a single tag axle mounted forward of the tandem drive axle. Cab is pretty good and transmission smooth shifting, 2 speed axle shifts good, good tires and brakes, seat is trash and dash is pitiful, windows both roll up and down and no glass is busted. The dump box is in good shape and the gate opens and closes properly, I did not get the size of the box but it is 10 feet long and 48 inches deep by 98 inches wide so probably 6 yards. I am going to take the seat to an old man I know who does that work and probably order a dash online, then I will put a new exhaust under it and put it for sale or maybe use it for a while if the insurance is not ridiculous, anybody have an idea what these old trucks are bringing?

ooks like 12 to me

2 speed axle on a tandem drive, I don't think I have ever seen one??....you have one so apparently they exist,no idea the value of that.

I did not describe that clearly or correctly, it is a single drive axle with dual rear wheels. Thanks.

I drove a '70s, L8000 Ford. 2 speed on a tandem axle. I still don't know how it worked. Never crawled under to look, but it did work.

If those are the inside dimensions of the box it should hold 12 yards level to the top according to my mental math, which may not be very good. I don't know if that is how dump boxes are figured, though.

eeds to load only 8 inches deep in that 4 foot deep box to meet Allan's 2 cu yds. :)

(quoted from post at 10:46:21 02/06/15) The third axle is a peg axle. It is not a twin screw. Pegs usually have single tires

Peg axle? A new name. I have always called them a lift axle, some call them a dolly axle or a pusher axle, or a tag axle. Different names in different parts of the country.

Lots of trucks in the 70's built with both axels
two speed tandem drive (twin screw). This gave
three axel speeds: 1 low/low, 2 low/high, 3
high/high. Interaxel differential got a workout
in the middle speed. Dan

If it is behind the drive axle, it is called a tag axle. If it is in front of the drive axle, it is a cheater axle.

Doubt you guys have ever loaded 2 yards of gravel in an old Chevy truck?

Heck, semis here haul 8 to 10 yards.

Allan

When I worked for the township road commissioner 40
years ago they had two C65 Chevy dump trucks, a '67
and a '74. Both had 366's and 5+2 trans/axle.

We hauled 20,000# net out of the quarry grossing
right at 33,000#. At 2700# per yard that was about
7-1/2 cubic yards on a Heavy single axle dump truck.
Both trucks had huge heavy frames in front of the
grill and back underneath almost to the rear axle
for mounting the snow blades, both angled blade and
V blade. No wings on those trucks though.

An aluminum five axle dump should be able to haul
TWENTY cubic yards, 54,000#.

Boy my old Dodge must be stronger than I thought! 10 ton on the old girl aint nothing, Now put 15 ton in the bed it knows it has a load. 10 ton in this bed touches the the 4 sides (not up on the sides)in a nice V pile and if you have a good loader you wont even see gravel in the bed. Hard to beat a good old Dodge! Oh the bed is a 8 to 10 yard bed and can be loaded by my old Gehl 4400 skid steer. This truck is so handy. Bandit

That's what I figured, top money, it's too useful to sell for that price.

While grain/dump trucks are high right now, I don't think it would go as high as one with a grain box. Someone using it as a true dump would likely want a diesel or more transmission options. Heck, I wish I had more shift options on my grain truck.

just thought id mention it but if that truck has a bench seat both it and the dash pad will be close enough to the pickup parts that a seat kit, [ foam and cover and hog rings as well as the dash pad can be purchased and installed in a few hours by you save some bucks 6 cubic yards is probably a full load for that, lighter material such as wood ect you may fit 10 on it

A little over a year ago I gave $3500 for an '86 f600, 370 gas, single axle with a dump box, not sure how long, scissor hoist, it runs good not everything works but I just use it around the farm.

my 17 foot triaxle would carry 16 yds of crusher run, and you could usually still see the floor in one corner. 3/4 stone is much lighter as is road salt, and I could carry 22 yards of either of those.

85 GMC 7000 454 5speed progressive single axle air brakes&horn twin hoist 18' grain bed sure loc tarp holds 450 bu of beans gave 4,000.00 last fall
