Predatory contracts, read the fine print.

Predatory contracts.

A friend bought a time share. Had to pay $3000 to get rid of time share. The Predatory time share contract, in legal terms that no one can understant, basically that even if she died, her kids would have to pay the maintenance fee.

I've used a trash service for years. I got tired of their practices and told them to stop my services. He said my contract auto renewed and I would have to pay 6 months to get out of them. I told him if he wanted to get paid, remove the dumpsters, send me a final bill. If he has a problem, I'll be looking forward to seeing him in court. On 4-1-13, I had sent him an email telling him I don't want my contracts to auto renew, I wanted them to be month to month. He used all sorts of strong arm tactics trying to scare me in to not dropping them. I told him I want nothing to do with their services. Be interesting to see what he does.

I think it should be illegal to have what I call Predatory contracts based on fine print no one can see or understand.

I sat through one of those hard sell time share things in Pigeon Forge one time. We got two free nights in a hotel out of the deal anyway. The salesman was real nice while he was trying to sell, not so nice would be an understatement when he couldn't talk me in to anything.

I sat through one of those one time. All got was a cheap set of knives. Very high pressure. I was never so happy to leave that groupe with my knives. Stan

You are lucky you have a choice. In my county (not city) we are required to use the county's pickup. But it is called a tax so you pay or lose your house. The property owner is responsible for any rental units' garbage bill too. TDF

same here RRLund - they called offering airline tickets to florida, I was so curious to see what the scam was that I decided to try it out.

They kept passing me off to higher level salespeople, each one going lower and lower on the deal to buy the timeshare.

It started around $10,000

I finally made it to the top guy who was down around $1000 with the "gold package" by the time I got to him.

He got all red faced and was actually YELLING at me about how foolish I was not to take the deal he was offering. He was positively Po'd.

I just sat there laughing, saying, no thanks, I just want my tickets.

I thought he was going to have an aneurysm.

Took all day, but I did finally get my vouchers.

I wish people selling time shares would have more than just an aneurysm. What a scam. No way I would spend all day vouchers. Time shares should be illegal. Any contract you can't get out of should be illegal.

Oh totally not worth it, I certainly wouldn't do it again.

But this was in the days before the internet, so I didn't really have good source of finding out how it all worked.

My curiosity got the best of me. I was glad I did it, just to see it with my own eyes. It was interesting. Total waste of time, but interesting.

Everyone in the World should know by now that timeshares are a ripoff.READ any contract you sign or get someone that can read it to tell you what it means.Like a judge here in my county told a fellow years ago "Mr X it all boils down to the fact that the law can only go so far to protect a person from their own stupidity,I'm ruling against you".

Fire extinguishers are the new one around here the past couple years. Free meal, see a talk about fire extinguishers. $$$$ deals!

Years ago a friend got took by a water softener deal, free meal sales pitch; friend got talked into a 3 day free trial, the salesman said give it a couple more days, then didnt return calls, friend got a bill from the company.

After a court case, judge said you didnt return it in 3 days, you owe the company for the softener, if you have a beef you need to find the salesman......

So my friend owned a $4000 water softener that he propped on the corner for a while.

FYI, I never have or will have a stupid time share. Hope others learn form my friends mistake.

We sat through a few sales pitches just for the free stuff when they first started selling timeshares in the Dells. 1 hr. presentation with low pressure salespeople. At that time, they could tell we weren't buying because we just barely met the income requirements. When they asked where we liked to travel, we listed tractor shows in rural areas where they didn't have facilities available. Hard to sell when they don't have the locations we need. The last time we went, they were real jerks about not buying so we declined the next invite.

Any contract you can't get out of should be illegal.

Then whats the point of having a contract? If someone is foolish enough to sign a contract for big money without reading it or having a competent person read and explain it, whose fault is that?

I've never seen a contract you can't get out of. Most have some type of penalty but you can get out of them.
