8 volt system

Got an old (1944) Farmall A. Would not spin fast enough with 6 volt to start. Applied an 8 volt battery and wow, stars great. I had the generator boosted to 8.5 volts by an old timer at the electric shop. Now, what bulbs to use in the lights???? Sould I use 12 volts and accept the dimmer light or use 6 volt and replace them oftener. How quick would the 6 volts burn out.

keep the current 6 volt lights and put a resister/voltage restrictor in circuit at light switch. Ford dashboard light restrictor for the earlier than computer systems, Chrysler starter wire to coil resister block or radio shack variable voltage regulator or the little block resistor/surge protector for some computer systems. Quickest, easy way. Variable voltage lights from aircraft might be found, the motorcycle 6 volt halogen bulbs need assembly, model T bulbs or pre 1940s IHC Bosch lights were good for 4 to 10 volts since they were meant to run on straight generator with no battery- but again not a off the shelf at local store item. HenryO, they do make 8.5v bulbs, and if anyone has them, it would be here:

I did that to the 49 GMC. left the 6 volt bulbs in Never drove it alot at night but ran it for 3 years like that and never had to replace a bulb. Had the brightest lights on the road.
