Look at this Oliver, Randy!

How did Olivers and Cockshuts which were both beautiful tractors evolve into Whites, which are some of the ugliest tractors ever made???

She's a beauty, but that's quite a chunk of change. Too bad they went to all that trouble and didn't get the right gauges though.

I know what you mean about the gauges.. Some John Deere guys restore early A's, B's and G's with incorrect black face gauges.

Well actually while the JD's came from the factory new with white faced gauges there was a period in time when the only gauges available for them were from John Deere and these happened to be the ones with black faces. So in reality how could these be incorrect as they were a factory approved replacement part ?
All this happened years before you could buy white face gauges from the aftermarket that were Licensed to say John Deere on them.

My dad jokingly said one time: They took the worst of Oliver and MM and made a tractor. I think some of the good of both survived in them though.

Well said.Mike. My '50 "B' has one black JD gauge in it and the guy I bought it from owned it for the previous 35 yrs which would have made it 1970. He said he replaced that gauge when he got it with one from JD dealer. Asked if he could get white to match others and told no. It's part of the tractors history so it stays unless it goes bad. Also a piece of history is the original (un-recovered) steering wheel which proves the owners story about it being kept inside as long as he can remember. (yes I repaired a small crack by ea. spoke with epoxy but it's original) I know you can get very nice re-pops but everyone that ever owned/drove this tractor had their hands on that wheel. Can't re-produce that.

I remember something I read or was told ? about a steering wheel that was worn real thin in one spot. I think it was from being held there picking with a mounted picker.

The guy probably has almost that much in it. The seat and gear shift pattern is way different than mine.Must be one of the last ones made. Still it will be one of those tractors that is for sale a long time.
