It may be a small thing but I'm excited about this 48 year old diesel starter cranking faster after cleaning it up and putting in new new brushes.

As well you should be. We take our victories as we find them, and its especially satisfying to fix something when you felt like you really didn't know what you were doing when you started the project.

Yep, the Chinese are making these now by the thousands probably thinking how stupid Americans were to make last 50 +years.
