Moving around some old logs today and look at the size of these buggers! They are almost one and a quarter inches long. That is a AAA battery.

throw that big thing on the table at your local restaurant and call the waitress --I see a free meal or you can throw them to the chickens and eat the chicken -- could be a delicacy at the local chinese restaurant LOL

The old folks around here called them "sawyer beetles". Don't know why. The larva is also impressive---one to two inches long, cream-colored, fat, and juicy, almost big as your pinkie. They get in your firewood and add a nice "Pop" to the fire.

I don't think those suckers run on AAA batteries- get it out of there, or they'll cart it off. They're big enough to burn diesel.

Anyone know about this one?

That's my index finger in front of it as close as I dared put it--looks like it could bite. It was in a parking lot. Sorry it's a crappy cell phone pic.

We get pine sawyer beetles here that can be 4 inches long. They only fly a few times a year, and are part of the reason I wear a full face helmet On my bikes. They seem to be custard filled And can make quite a mess on your face.
