I have some light gage galvanized corrugated roofing steel and would like to know the procedure for butane spot soldering on it. Just a spot here and there to hold together. Not on a roof, just a small fab. project and don't want unsightly brackets to hold together. Never had to solder galvanized coated steel.Thanks. RB

Use a bit of muriatic acid as flux, it will solder just fine. The acid will eat the zinc coating, so try to keep it just where you want to solder.

Talking about soldering, What should be used to clean older copper wire before soldering? I read the comment on muriatic acid I might try that. How do you stop the reaction? I like to solder connections but corrosion prevents it sometimes.

Dano, at work after using a muriatic (AKA hydrochloric) acid bath to finish cleaning steel parts we rinse in standard water.
I clean copper bars in it too

(quoted from post at 08:07:37 04/29/15) Lead poisoning comes to mind. Plenty of air going in the other direction.

Zinc fumes from the galvanizing might be a risk. Lead fumes are not a consideration unless you get the lead alloy in the solder to boil which occurs way, way past the melting point. That point will vary with the alloy but it's basically a non starter.
