Briggs 20 hp Intec twine engine running rich??

Have a zero turn Cub Cadet with a 20 hp Intec twin cylinder engine. Sometimes it sounds like it is running OK, then at other times it sounds like it is getting too much gas and sort of flooding out. If you shut it off it doesn't really want to start well, until you crank it enough, sort of like it is flooded. Crank it long enough and it will begin to fire and run. Might have some unburned fuel vapors in the muffler (running rich) when you shut it off as sometimes it will pop. I have disassembled the carb and did put a new gasket set into it. No adjustments on this carb., at least no main jet adjustment. Only 111 hours on the engine. Any ideas????? Thanks.

Well maybe. Under Tractorbynet discussion forum, there's a Cub Cadet L&G discussion section, those boys mqy be able to help. I think you have tomake sure you areo n the L&G part of it. The site is not as user-friendly as this site, my opinion, but you ought to get some ideas.

I have a 20 hp intec with 400 hrs. I had to adjust the valves once, no carb problems. Popping in the exhaust is common. Try leaving engine running at full speed before you turn it off. That seems to work better for me, eliminates dieseling and popping. When you turn key off, you kill the spark and unburned gas is inside the muffler. Popping isn't a sign you are running rich.

Check air filter,
Check valve clearance
Replace spark plugs
Replace fuel filter
I purchased a blown kohler engine off a cub cadet. There was only 300 hrs on engine. The cooling fins were 100% choked with dirt and grass. Engine overheating could be the cause of our problem.

Some small engines rely on vacuum impulses through the carburetor to pump fuel. As the engines get older the pump diaphram gets stiffer and less effective at starting speeds.

I have a few small engines that are tough to start after they sit for a while. If I squirt some carb cleaner in the intake they will run for for a few seconds on the carb cleaner and that is often enough to get the fuel pump working again. They will sputter for the first five to ten seconds, then take off running like the should.
