May we all remember and honor those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for this great country!!!!

May we guard an preserve the freedoms paid for by these brave men and women, less they be take by men with pen and paper!!!

May we try to ensure our sons and daughters, grand sons and grand daughters never have to pay this price!!!!!

May we teach these lessons to the next generation so they can guard this great land when we are no longer able to do so!!!

MAY WE NEVER forget what Memorial Day is really about!!!!!!

The origin of Memorial day

KNOW YOUR HISTORY:

Memorial Day was started by former slaves on May, 1, 1865 in Charleston, SC to honor 257 dead Union Soldiers who had been buried in a mass grave in a Confederate prison camp. They dug up the bodies and worked for 2 weeks to give them a proper burial as gratitude for fighting for their freedom. They then held a parade of 10,000 people led by 2,800 Black children where they marched, sang and celebrated.

Hey Russ I think YOU better check your history a little better--Most of the origins I have heard are June 1861 in Savanah Georgia or July 1864 in Boalsburg Penn. I think you got Michelle external_link's version off of AOL

That tale is a complete and utter fantasy tailor made for the gullible by the revisionist history crowd. If you knew anything about civil war history then you would know why your story could not possibly be true. A Union General declared the first Memorial Day in 1868.
