Front CV Joint

So, the mud handed it to me. They don't do so good in four wheel drive when they spin a CV joint. Guess I know what I'll be doing today.

However, I thought the axles were fairly cheap at $56 a pop.

always look the part number up on amazon - you'll often be surprised to find the same exact parts even cheaper, even when factoring in shipping.

Be careful of the no name rebuilt axles. I helped a friend install new axles on his s-10. He bought the cheapest ones he could find from a local parts store, Car quest I think. The boots only lasted 6 months before they disintegrated. They did warranty them but we had to install the new ones. He sold the truck so I don't know how long the replacements lasted.

BTDT had to replace the ones on my '85 S-10 due to mud. One of the boots had torn and I did not notice it in time. Hopefully you have a pressure washer to clean the area up a little before the repair starts.

I changed a front axle shaft on my 08 2500. All I did was took the wheel, and the lower shock bolt out. Slid right out and the new one slid in. I was expecting a couple hour deal. think it took longer to pull the wheel then anything.

Got yourself a "Johnny Cash" truck there, It will be "one piece at a time" until it's brand new

Did ya decide on buying another beater truck? Just askin. Thinkin about taking on a truck the brother in law is about to have to let go cause he lost his job.

Yep,

Those new style axles are a walk in the park; old buggers will make ya cuss yer mama. Took me over 2 hours to get the old one out and then another 5 minutes to put the new one in and have 'er down on the ground again.
