Best way to cut cast brake drum

Whats the best way to cut a hole in a
cast brake drum off a semi in the
side. Plan is to weld two drums
together and make a little wood
heater. Saw one yrs ago and lookd
pretty smart

be creative! Drills and tourches but you can also drill a circle pattern with a drill and then cut it out with a tourch where there is still a little metal. Even a file will do it. You going to weld up the lug bolt holes? That will make a tough little stove!

Sawzall and a good bi-metal blade, plasma cutter would be the fastest and cleanest cut.

Wear a mask! It doesn't matter how you cut it, if you don't you will be tasting/spitting iron for a couple days. I sawzalled a lug off an engine block without a mask and I had breathed in so much iron dust I was spitting chunks of iron and something in there was bleeding, I think my sinuses by the way they felt. Sounds like an interesting project though

You can cut cast iron with a torch if you use a bare steel welding rod just above the cut. Use it as if you are trying to braze with it, only do it with the cutting flame Once you get the cut going the steel will help with the cast. It ain't easy or pretty but it is doable. TDF

Just use your 4 1/2" angle grinder and a few cut off discs. We use the little grinder almost daily at work, often in place of the torch.
