Slightly OT: Any KB-1 pick up owners here?

Been looking for a project-any project- for my son and I. He pretty much hates the tractor stuff and we don't have a lot in common, until this. I've been looking for a KB type project. He first wanted an old 40's type Jeep but that's really out of our area of expertise and we both really want an IH pick up. We found a pair of KB's that are dry western...well, bodies that are 1,000 mile away. One is a K and the other a KB. Originally the deal included one stuck engine, but now there is no engines. The trip doesn't scare me and I have patience to do restorations, although I've never done a truck. What I would need is a third unit with a running gear. Is this a good path to take? The units are solid but judging from the pics lack glass, and of course any "soft" parts.

I am 95% finished with a compete frame off restoration of a KB1. It has taken me five years to get this far. I should have it on the road in a couple of weeks.

My uncle had a KB5 with a gas tank on it in the 40's. We have a guy from IN that has a KB6 that he hauls his L Case on it to Penfield and Rantoul.

How far are you willing to haul because I have a 1948 KB5 dump that operates perfect , a 1961 INT C-120 4DR 4WD CREW CAB that belonged to the USA radar squardron and also a 1979 CJ7 Jeep 6 cyl softop . Call me Iive in Sault Ste Marie ont right at the Mich . border . 705 975 2803 or email for pics [email protected] .

Pickup trucks and large trucks made by International Harvester in the late 1940s. The KB1 is a half ton, KB2 3/4, KB3 1 ton, they go all the way up to large semi tractors.

Sold this back during the winter. 1947 KB-1. Had it since 1982. They were available with a regular stamped steel bed or with a checker plate bed. This one had the checker plate bed. Knox manufacturing made both for them. Had a lot of extra parts but have sold all of them also. Pretty easy vehicle to work on. Most parts are still around just takes some digging to find some of them. Forgot to close hood before taking picture. Amazing what you see after the pictures are taken. Good luck. Lee

I would just find another engine to install. Those originally had a Flathead Green Diamond engine that is near impossible together internal parts for. A rebuild onthe engine will cost as much as the rest of it.

Not certain what your final goal is, but have you ever thought about mounting one of those nice bodies on a more modern doner chassis, like a rusted out, but mechanically sound Ford or Chevy?

WHY not just search the 'net for one that's already done and somebody wants to get out from under, and save all the aggravation?

Tell you something I do / did / still do. My older son and I sometines don't agree on things, he sometimes is a little difficult. He doens't care for lots of things I do. But I have made it a point to get interested in things HE likes. When he's playing Play-Station games, I just sit there and get entertained. IN fact, I ask him to entertain ME! I ask him what he's doing, what this is, what that is. what that vehicle is, how much HP? It works.

A K was made before the KB and is identical except for the grille. The K has just the grille going up and down, the KB has the side "wings" on the grille.

How far up the KB line did the green diamond six go? If I looked for an engine what models would have it? Would you feel like sharing a few emails with some questions? email is open
