I saw this on a satellite view map and wondered what it is. It's south of Tabor, SD. Yankton area. Doesn't look like a "normal" city.

I think those are Hutterites (spelling) Colonies, I've heard little about them but similar to Mennonites around central Iowa.

Nate has it. There is a sign on State hiway 52 pointing to it. The colony is on Lewis and Clark Lake. There are several around. A Colony a few miles north of here had to destroy several thousand turkeys due to bird flu.

As I understand it, Hutterites are a religious sect. They are the truest "communists" in the world. They own everything together and NOTHING personally except perhaps a wrist watch. They cook together, they eat together, they worship together, but married couples have one or more "rooms" to themselves, but no kitchen, tv room, etc. They buy the best farmland in the area. They have the best, newest farm machinery. But they don't pay taxes because all of the property belongs to the "church". I could go on and on, but I think you have the idea.

The Mennonites are in eastern Ia South of Ia City down towards Mt Pleasant and arent like the Hutterites no common property ect.
