You have to read the fine print

I think the CDI box went bad on my old Yamaha Moto 4. Went to the dealer,a new one can be had for the low,low price of $466. That's about 400 more than the 4 wheeler's worth. I was checking online, found one for $55,but this was in the fine print when I read it all.

"This is test service fee. If you are in the USA. We will send you a shipping label to send in your cdi for repair.

If the cdi unit tests bad there will be an additional charge for $165"

They're just being WAY too generous. I wonder how many people get nicked on that one?

That's still not a bad deal. Yes, it can be deceptive, but you caught it, so you're not expecting a working unit for $55.

Evidently they have repaired them before, probably a problem common to all of them. Was this on Ebay? If so take a look at their performance rating. If they're ripping people off it will show by negative responses.

I used a service like that to repair a digital machine readout. Had excellent service, they even provided tech support (in English!) to do the final calibration. It was on Ebay.

Yeah just a SMALL chance it would not work. I've bought a few used and got snookered. But for $165 you could try 3 more times!. Actually got a good one for a Kawasaki from Lemon & Barretts in WV 800-648-5306 -- have alot of used parts for dirt bikes, 4 whlrs, snowmobiles.

Randy,

Andy Rooney would always say "There is no good news in the fine print." I had some time to kill in an airport one time and read the entire contract of a rental car companies contract. You would never rent a car again once you read all that you are liable for. Kind of like watching sausage being made.

There is a salvage yard in Mt Pleasant that sells used parts and they may have one. They seem to be a good place and maybe they could check t for you

I recently needed a carburetor for a Yamaha big bear, dealers wanted 500.00 plus or minus for a new one, just because it said Yamaha on it. got a new aftermarket one for 54.oo off of amazon or ebay.runs like a champ.. you might check those sites and find a lot better deal...

Do you know the name of the place Ivan?
There's a small one in Greenville. I stopped there. He said he should have one from a 225 three wheeler that he just parted out but he couldn't find it.

No,it wasn't eBay,it was a business that had a boat load of choices. I was hoping for a new cheap Chinese knockoff.

Snow mobile and motorcycle salvage, Mt. P 989-772-3442. Is a u pick yard, some stuff on shelves.
Slicks in Dansville 517-676-0583 ... More organized.
Either one take your old one. Will have boxes full of them by brand. Some still on bikes. Got a magneto for $10 in Mt. P last year for a '76 rm250. New set of front tires and wheels for the Polaris for 40. Slicks had the rm ehaust for 10.

I cannot remember the name of it. Do a search for snowmobile salvage in Mich. It use to be a big place but I have not been there in a couple of years.

Thanks. I'll check with the one in Mt P. They're not that far away. I need to go to Clare and drop some stuff off at Nevills anyway.

Ya,River Road comes out to the road that goes to Beal City. That's the way I go in. He must be near Dan Reid, the guy who sells used equipment.

Randy- Try dbelectrical.com. They have some for Yamaha. I bought one for a honda 300 there, still working good after a year. I bought starter brushes for that same type of Honda also.

If it is the week after the 4th when you go to Clare let me know and I'll meet you for lunch. Or drive another 11 miles and stop by. Does Nevills sell split rail fence? If not, who up there does? Have been by there a few times but never stopped. Thanks, Bob.

Randy,
I dont know if this will help, but will throw it out here anyways.

When the ignition on my Yamaha golf cart was giving me an issue, I traced it to the CDI module. In all my searching, there were a few people that had figured out how to make a "universal" CDI module work. They had taken the time to figure out the pin-out on the wiring diagrams and adapt to their machine.

I ended up going with an OEM Yamaha CDI box because at the time it wasnt that much more $$.
I attached the link if you are interested. Might help your search a little. Or google "yahama G1 CDI box, buggies unlimited"
