3 point lift won't lift with clutch pedal pressed in.

I understand the difference between a transmission, live & independent PTO shaft , but my question is concerning the 3 point lift.

I had a Ford 4000 that you could raise and lower the implement at anytime with the clutch in or out. And now I have a Super Dexta that will only lift after you take your foot off the clutch. Do you have to have an independent PTO in order to lift your implement at anytime ?

I'm not sure on that model but the live hydraulics means they are driven by the engine. Not the transmission. Most tractors pre 1952ish had non live hydraulics. The hydraulics
that are driven by the transmission will not work when the clutch is pushed in. Basically if you can see the hydraulic pump in front of the clutch you have live hydraulics. If you see
your pump is under the seat(like the 8N) then you have non live hydraulics.

Do those have a two stage clutch? Pedal down half way to stop the tractor, all the way down to stop the PTO and hydraulics?

You have to have live independent HYDRAULIC to be able to lift anytime anywhere. Obviously your Dexta does not. Some tractors the hydraulic pump drives off the PTO gear. The Ford 9N does. Others the hydraulic pump has it's own drive and can be operated independently of the PTO.

on that tractr the pump drives off the pto
basicly if the pto isn't turning neither is your pump thus no 3 point lift but t will go down
I run one for yrs the last place I worked and now my buddy owns it and I just taught him today how it
runs as he's using it with a bush hog
his only other tractor operation was an Allis WD that I bought off his fathers estate today
will be quite a step up for him

I believe the super dexta had the two stage clutch.. look at the arm coming out of the transmission. Where the rod attaches will be two holes... one for lower pedal and no pto control, and the other for a higher pedal.. meaning that part way down the tractor stops but pto still turns, all the way down the pto stops also... but its been a long time since I had my super dexta.. was a great little tractor but no power steering.

Are you sure you have a Super Dexta? We had one and I don't remember the clutch affecting the lift. Post a pic. Btw all four speed Fords have transmission pto=clutch pedal down means no pto.
