Chemicals, lanthanum chloride hydrate

I have a water feature I care for at work. This feature has an algae problem. I have put in ridiculous quantities of chlorine
and acid with little effect.

I believe the problem is due to a compost in the landscaping that is blowing into the feature. I think the compost is high in
phosphate and is causing the resistant algae.

The chemical store recommends a product that has lanthanum chloride hydrate. I need to know if this is harmful to animals as the
owner's dog drinks and goes into this feature. Also, the feature drains into a cow pasture.

Thanks.

i have heard a lot of guys use barley straw to keep the algae down in farm ponds. prolly wouldnt hurt to try. they just put in in with the twine on, dont break the bale open.

Depending on the type of algae, Princep 90 works well.

Copper Sulfate is more expensive but does control different algae..

Blue Aqua Shade may help if you do not have a heavy turn-over of water flow..

Pool chemicals often have Lanthanum Cl Hydrate in them (not much) to bind with the Phosphorous, which stops the algae from feasting on the phosphorous. From the Web, it is not readily absorbed by the body. it is used as a medicine for end stage renal failure. Jim
