I have seen that video before. While I agree that it is dangerous in several ways it is just a more modern way for starting a tractor like we used to when they had a belt pulley. I know I have started a tractor with a belt pulley with a rope wrapped around the pulley.

That guy is a full blown IDIOT. To cheep to buy a used starter/ have the old one re-built.

it could work , but why would you do this as normal practice , I too have restarted a tractor on the hammer mill when the motor stalled when I idled back and punched the clutch , simply dumped the clutch on the coasting hammermill and it was running again ,, also have started a vac case on the belt pully and jd model l ,,, no big deal ,, most fun is starting uncle hanks jd h on the flywheel ,, using the decompresser valve ,,. most of the jd back in the day were started like that ,.
