Anyone ID This NH Baler?

Buddy just sent me a few pics of a baler he found. I think I can get it for a good price, but what is it?? 268?

Will parts of my NH 66 / 57 / 68 interchange with it? Is this a bigger/higher capacity baler than my NH 68? It is a little newer than my 68 I think... Mainly by that big yellow decal thing on the bale chute....

What do you guys think??

Model?
Price?
Year?

yay or nay?!

Just talked to the guy on the phone. Said that he didn't remember what it was, but remembered it being a "270 something". Said he didn't remember that for sure though.

From what he had to say, it sounds like a fairly high capacity machine!

Also said that when he got it 12 years ago, he had the knotters gone through, "hooks and knives replace". He has only done 14 acres a year with it since then. Said that 2 years ago he had four "Bale wedges" put in it, to increase the compression of the baler. He says that they work "surprisingly well" and that the paint is still on them in spots?!

I think I can get it for around $300, what do you guys think??

I was thinking not quite a 270?

My 270 does not have the yellow on the chute, and the chute cranks are different. I would guess close but older than a 270. I would guess parts would fit mine more than they fit yours.

Its probably a 270 then. They didn't make them many years, tho they made a lot of them. I've seen the yellow tales, but did not think on 270s here. And I don't see many with engines, that throws me a bit.

I suppose you can't get hurt to bad at $300, worth the iron?

the baler might be a 272, couple years newer vintage but higher capacity than the 270/271.
270 1961-63 had vertical feeder chain, much better bale shape than a baler with a horizontal running chain.
271- same baler as 270 except a longer tongue and 3 section pto.
272 1964-68 had iirc, a vertical feeder chain and the yellow on the bale chute.
268-269 273 had a horizontal feeder chain, so they are out of the running for possibilities.
considering where you are, the higher capacity NH baler models (272, 275, 276, 282) were more prevalent than here in the east.
for $300, you can't go wrong, though most parts probably won't interchange with what you have now.

I do not know the models later than a 66 or S66. That said it has the same 2 cylinder engine that the 66 used and that was not a high capacity baler so I don't think this one is either as for much higher capacity it would need more power than that engine has. When the 66 was built the 77 was also built as a higher capacity baler and it took the 4 cylinder to power it. So if it was a high capacity baler then I would think it would also havehad a 4 cylinder engine. I would guess it is worth the money and if you see it you should be able to find model tag.

It's a 271, a long tongue 270. They are the next series after the 67,68,69's. Almost the same only a few more features and more "deluxe". Many the same parts. The 272 was a engine driven 268. The 269 was long tongue 268. The 275 was heavier version similar 268. hope this helps.....Ron

If you could find the driveline and get rid of that Wisconsin motor you would have a nice baler.Wisconsins were hard starting junk.

(quoted from post at 19:47:59 08/16/15) That's an interesting rain cap!

That's a Chevy raincap...one of Bryce's favorites! "Like a Rock".....

Like a rock.......just sits there on the side of the road......like a rock.

Yup, did some more searching, and the 271 has the yellow panels in back, and the fancier hand cranks. You got it!

As mentioned, interchanges with a 270 except the hitch and pto and a few 'pretty' items. This is not a high capacity model; 270/271 is the last of the lower capacity machines. My 270 spits out a few 1000 bales year after year. Good machine.
