Starter smoked last night when I tried to start tractor. Took it apart today and found this wire was burned off. Couldn't find any other end to tell where it should go. Never seen (or at least hadn't noticed) where there was a little wire from the switch before. There are two wires, one to ignition switch, one to battery. Both connect to the bolt at the top of starter switch. Both are fine.

That wire probably feeds a full 12 volts to the ignition, shunting the bypass resister, as long as you have the starter engaged. I'd check to make sure the circuit was not shorted and if not, hook it back up and go.

used jumper cables to test it from my pickup. Starter spun, but slow. Took it to the shop bench and found the brushes were only touching on one corner, they were resting at an angle and only part of them were engaging the commutator. Put it back in the tractor and can't get it to turn over at all???? Ran out of light and gave up. Will work on it Monday.
