I tried the Deere MX8, wasn't happy with the cut, so bought a Bush Hog 3008 and love it.....so much I bought another since they are discontinuing this model. You may still find some pull types at a pretty good discount. Check external_link.com

I have a 15 foot pull JD (1508) and a couple of three point rotary mowers.

I have hated that pull mower from day 1. It is a man killer to hook up, it does a half arsed job of mowing, and it won't even mow whole strips when you are turning at all. It has a set of blades behind the tractor and the wings each have a set of blades. Since those set so far back it's easy for whispy stuff to never see a blade. I will only mow places that I can't see from the house. I hate the look of the pastures and ditches after you use it. The bull pen here at home is about seven acres. I use the 8N Ford with a five foot three point mower. I mowed it once in a couple of hours with the big one, but then I had to look at the job it had done every time I left the house.

I guess my point would be go with sonething that has a single set of blades or get one that has the blades in line with each other. A neighbor has one like that and if does a good job. It's probably a 10 footer.

On an 8 or 10 foot twin spindle the blades should be timed with a 2" overlap I believe, so they won't leave strips.

I have a Bush Hog 3210 that has been a good mower. I would recommend that if you're going with a 10ft and need something that's heavier duty. I think they made a 3208 as well, which was very similar. Rhino makes an 8ft in a lighter duty (SE8), that we've had good luck with but haven't put a lot of time on yet.

Deere mowers have a slower tip speed --drop down a couple of gears and keep rpms up and they do better --can't beat a real Bushhog.

I picked up a very well used Woods 1004, ten foot offset pull-type when the neighbor cleaned the barn out. It mows well enough, and chops down taller brush well. I had hoped it would let me hang it out over ditches more, but not enough weight to keep it from tipping when I narrow the rear wheels .

I have a Woods MDS1260 mounted HD twin spindle cutter that I bought new for use with a NH T4050 that I have since sold.

It's HD and cuts well but heavy. With chain shielding and hydraulic tail wheel adjustment, it's pushing 3,000 lbs. so it needs a heavy tractor especially for use on steep ground, which I have.

I've had no issues with the mower since set up but it was originally shipped from the factory with the wrong gearboxes causing the blades to rotate backwards.

I bought a Bush Hog 2610 batwing a few years ago to use on my prawn ponds and also for fence row maintenance in August. I can keep the tractor on top of the pond dams with the batwing cutting the water side. The fold-up feature of the batwing also makes the mower easier to transport, get around trees and mow waterways/ditches without having to straddle them if it is wet. I have been very satisfied with it.

have 2 15' bat-wing mowers, JD 1518 mow water ways and fence rows pulled with 4640 and 4455 everything thing does a great job. I will mow for ather people maby 5 to 600 ac a year, you can mow a lot of ac per hr. there are good mowers
