Hope someone can shed some light on electrical issue with my TE20.It was working fine then went to restart and wouldn't fire. I have no spark at the plug but spark out of the coil and at the distributor. I have a new distributor cap and rotor and still nothing. I've check all the ht leads and have good continuity. Bit stumped as to what else to check any thoughts???

Having spark at the coil means that part of the system is working correctly. You need to check to see if the distributor is actually turning. You could have a stripped drive gear. If the distributor rotor turns, check the rotor for shorts, check the cap for any carbon tracks, and check to see if the button in the middle of the cap is still there. Also check to see that the rotor is not slipping on the distributor shaft. The system has few enough parts that there are only a few ways to lose the spark.

Also, make sure the rotor is pointing at a cap post when the points open. I had a ford once that the 4 lobe nut on the distributor shaft turned and it was firing between posts.

Sounds like you new parts are bad parts. If the coil wire has spark that means the points and doing there job and you have power etc. So why did you replace the cap and rotor

I will second making sure the distributor is turning. Then install the old rotor.

I have a rotor in my tool box from years ago. It was hours old and the tractor quit running. I wasted two days working on that tractor because the rotor is bad. It will check OK with a volt ohm meter but it will not fire.

jimg, you are usually dead on but this time I have to disagree.

If there is spark at the coil, the distributor has to be turning, no way around it.
