OT Knee Replacement

Well....after YEARS of waiting, I am supposed to report to the Des Moines VAMC tomorrow morning (16 November), at 0615, to have a Total Knee Replacement. I have been "bone-on-bone" for several years. SUPPOSED to be out of the hospital Thursday or Friday. I told them I wanted video of the operation, but they told me "No" - and no "souvenirs", either....

If any of you are in the area, stop by!

My granddaughter was rather disappointed when the Doc said she couldn't have my old knee for a souvenir. If they do it the way they did mine, you will be on your feet and walking almost before the anesthesia is worn off. Don't argue with them about it, do it. Take my word for it, the sooner you get that knee moving the better. Been a tad over three years now, and I couldn't be happier with mine. It's almost like you are ten years younger again. Good luck!

My doc screwed it up and had to go in twice BUTTTTTTTT in the end the amount of pain you will have relieved and the better quality of your work day it is very much worth the recovery pain. The exercise bike is your friend.

Good luck with it. Darned near everyone who has had a knee replaced tell me they should have done it sooner. If I was visiting Dsm I certainly would stop in to say hi. Haven't been in that facility since Marilyn's dad was there in the mid-90's.

The best thing that's happened to me in a long time was a new replacement knee a year ago. Just do what they tell you and you will be up and running before you know it.

Had mine done 10 yrs ago (seems like yesterday). I was only 55 at time but mine went great. No pain even today. Mine was done on Wed and went home on Fri pm. Had us and walking (with walker) next day after surgery. Joint camp til Fri and then home and to PT 2 days a week and my own PT in between. MAKE SURE and take the pain meds because it allows you to get a greater range of motion quicker that you would without them. The muscles NEED stretched and they don't care whether you feel the pain or not so you can stretch them further/sooner with pain meds, especially an hour before PT.Good luck.

Good luck!!! Keep us posted on your recovery. I'm needing a right done but my family Doctor told me to wait awhile longer the technology is getting better. I get a cortisone shot every so often and it helps. There is a place in council bluffs offering out-patient knee replacement our local doctors are hooked up with that I may check on that next time I'm in for a check-up.

Good luck! I had one done on 2 Apr. Do what they tell you! You can watch the surgery, not yours but of a knee replacement on YouTube. Might be better if you wait till after it's done.

im right behind ya buddy I am off work now for the second scope on my left knee it didnt not turn out too well. kinda wish I had went ahead and got the knee replaced. Dr gave me the option I decided to scope again , my bad

Had my left knee done a month, went home the next day, had rehab a home for 3 weeks. Now going to

outpatient therpy 3 day a week for a month.

Knee not doing real well. Still alot of swelling, knee very hot most of the time and very very stiff.

Using alot of ice to keep the swelling down, went home from hospital with a ice machine.

It works great, holds about 3 lbs of ice and water, pumps the ice water thru a hose to a pad that acts

like a radiator wrapped around my knee. I take the pain pills before rehab but I can,t tell that the

pills do anything. I hope my knee improves soon. Good luck with your replacement.
