New Process input shaft.

I'm trying to get my second Scoopmobile running. I need an input shaft for the transmission. The transmission casting number on the right side is C-38661. The date is 3-22-55. The Chrysler part number for the shaft is probably 1091 489. The transmission is a New Process. Can anybody tell me what model transmission this is? Where can I get a new input shaft, or do any of you have one? This is a spur gear transmission and is probably from early '50's or late '40's trucks. I think Scoopmobile used the design of transmission they originally had even after newer transmissions came out because it is married to a reversing transmission. You guys seem to know more than the rest of the world put together. Thanks for any help you can give. Paul

Good luck. I recently repaired the NP 425 tranny in my 1979 IH 1700 dump truck. I found a 435 close by which had some new parts in it. The input and output shafts are different, but the innards, which I needed, are the same. The 435 is apparently common, and used in many Fords. The only identification on the 435 was a metal tag between a couple of the PTO cover bolts. There was no ID on my 425. I suppose when the hoist PTO was installed, the tag went bye bye. It was a process of research, digging, trial and error, and talking around which got me here.

I have just barely started to look. I would like to find an old Dodge in a fence row somewhere, but I don't know the best area to look. I'll keep hunting. Thanks for the response.

Send an e-mail to me at [email protected], and I can look up the casting number in the morning and tell you what transmission it is. I might be able to find your gears, too. I work in a transmission parts warehouse and do that stuff all day long.
