ebay/amazon?

I ordered some epoxy form ebay a few days ago. It arrived today in an amazon box. Indiana requires amazon to collect sales tax. Never paid sales tax when buying form ebay. When I placed the order, I was charged sales tax. I Thought that was odd. But getting an item purchased form ebay arriving in an amazon box sealed with amazon tape is even odder. I even checked my order and it was purchased off ebay. Go figure.

I have paid sales tax on in-state purchases from eBay. The rule about tax applies to all of the large e-commerce sites equally, as far as I know.

First you don't order anything from ebay,you order things from sellers that sell on ebay
no surprise that some work with Amazon.If a seller has a physical operation in a state they have to charge sales tax on orders from that state.

You may be right, but it's a First for me to purchase something form an ebay seller and get it in an amazon box.

I bought my heater off ebay and it came shipped from northern hyd. What's even stranger is right before I bought it I tried getting one from northern hyd. and they were out of stock ? Some of these sellers must have some sort of contracts or something ?

Recently Indiana passed a law requiring Amazon to collect sales tax. I think a seller on ebay whos annual sales were under a certain amount were exempt. I've never paid sales tax on an item purchased on ebay shipped from China. Oh well, this is definately a first for me.

Back in 08. I bought a toy tractor off ebay. At that time I did not have an Amazon account. The toy was shipped in an Amazon box to my BROTHER'S address! He buys everything from Amazon. We have similar first names and both of us live in the same town.

just got bit myself from one of those ebay re-sellers.
Buying a small item on ebay, lots of choices, picked a near-by seller to get it quickly (ha).
Even paid the ny tax cuz the seller was only 35 miles away from me, here in ny.
Well....took over 3 weeks to receive the item....came in a Amazon box from California.
so much for fast...lol

I buy and sell on Ebay a little and reuse boxes to ship if boxes are reusable. Talking shipping time, I purchased a item from a ebay seller near Chicago on Feb 29th and received it yesterday March 10 here in Sou. Indiana. It started out on FedEx and got to Evansville In. on the 8th they gave it to USPS in Princeton, In. on the 9th and I finally got it on the 10th. Pony express was faster than FedEx.

If you look at Amazon I could as a prime member put something on Ebay and once someone hit the "buy it now" option or was high bidder place the order through Amazon to be delivered to them. Many items are free 2 day shipping from Amazon and they will ship to another address. So either buy it cheap on Amazon Prime and make a profit on the sale plus pocket shipping or just make my profit with the shipping. Scam? Not really if you bid for it or bought it now. You got what you paid for. Not the sellers fault that you only looked at Ebay and not at other options. In fact I find it rather amusing.
