zink strip vs copper strips for roof mold

Supposed to be copper. I ordered Copper sulphate on fleabay and mixed it with water and sprayed a wood shingle roof. Also clears your farm pond of alge at about a pound per acher of area. Ever see mold on a copper roof?

What works best is to remove the cause, too much shade. Shingles need to dry out or you will get mold and mildew and moss.

I use zinc when I can't cut neighbor's trees.

I'm having a hard time finding a store that stocks zinc strips locally. Do you guys buy it on line? Might try the copper sulfate wash.

Copper; Zink; or Lead will all work to "prevent" mold if you put enough of it on your roof.
I do not feel it will remove the stains that is already there.

For me I would rather use a liquid treatment.
Get some Defy roof cleaner. Spray it on; let it set for 1/2 hour; and wash the mold/stains off with a stiff spray garden hose.
Then get some Defy stain blocker for roofs. Spray it on the roof once every 2 or 3 years to prevent mold growth.

That is not mold in your picture, it is lichen, which is more difficult to remove. You want to apply 2% bleach solution, household bleach is 5.25. Wait until just after a rain when it is softer and more vulnerable. Once killed by the bleach it will slowly wash away from rain.

John,
Many years ago I noticed in Florida white shingles had a black mold on them except below any galvanized roof vent or galvanized riser pipe, they were white.

That made me a beliver in zinc.
