Good News - Bees Bumblebees

I know the world is coming to an end, but these warm days with quiet winds, there must be 2 - 5 honey bees on every blueberry plant, and probably 2 - 3 bumble bees. Plus wasps. butterflies, etc. That means [ hard to believe ] up to 10,000 honey bees buzzin around, and 2000 + bumble bees. It actually sounds like the entire field is sitting at the end of the runway revving it up for takeoff. The sweet smell is wonderful. The world is safe for another few days.

It sounds the same around here. Black locusts and poplars blooming. Sounds like a C 130 just hovering overhead.

I've seen several bumblebees on spring flowers in the past few days, but I've also seen several dead or dying ones lying on my gravel driveway. I wonder why they are dying. I've used to no sprays or other chemicals this spring.

Do you have the Carpenter Bees in your area? I know when we were in Charleston last year at this time that they were all over the place there.

Yep, I fight carpenter bees each year. Came upon a great way to get rid of them this year.
Mix 10% permethrin in gallon sprayer at about 3 tablespoons per gallon. Add about that much Dawn dish detergent and walk around and when you hit them they don't last long. Some hit the ground instantly as the soap gets on their wings. I have really wiped them out in the last week.
I think we discussed this last year, but the Dawn really makes it more effective.
Have had less show up each year since I have been using the pemethrin over the last few years.

I have a battery powered one (electric fly swatter) that I zap them little devils with.It works good, with one zap and they are history.Carpenters lost their job.
