Horses and Dogs

I loaded up the 3 "children" in the Ranger and ran around the fence last night to check for any fallen limbs on the wires. I have a hot wire around the top of the 5 wire fence because the draft horses love to reach over for the greener grass on the other side and can destroy a good barbed wire fence in just a few days. Also look at the grass and check for weeds or thistles.

I like to give the horses a few horse treats when I'm out there fooling around so they will come easier when I want them. I had loaded up the dogs and they weren't happy about how close the horses were getting to them..lol! When one stuck his head inside the Ranger, the one little Jack Russell about took his nose off. I finally had to give up and drive off. The funny thing is that the little Jacks will try to chase the big drafts when they come in to eat. The drafts aren't afraid by any means, but when the Jacks are on the ground by the barn, they are pretty tough. But when cornered in a open vehicle, they are a little more "gentlemanly" lol! Bob

The one picture looks like I am holding the horse and praying..lol! I was actually looking at his shoes as he got new shoes Saturday and I wanted to see how they were holding up. Goofy picture..

Yes, it is an English Setter. The middle one is a Jack Russell and the one closest to the camera is a Jack mix.

The story on the Jack mix is that my Wife used to help transport dogs when the animal shelters would get them either adopted or a rescue would take them and get them adopted. You would be surprised the network they have to transport dogs, sometimes clear across the country. Anyway, the little Jack mix was picked up in Wichita, Ks running loose as a pup. He spent his time in the shelter but nobody claimed him. Eventually his time was up and he was to be euthanized. The shelter attendant was leading him to the room to be put to sleep when he slipped out of his collar. While they were getting him rounded back up, a rescue lady in Omaha called and said they would take him. Talk about saved by the bell...my wife was waiting on the person to bring him from Wichita to Salina so she could take him on East to the next meeting point and she wanted him herself. So that is how he came to our place. Great little dog but has an attitude..hehe. The picture is on the ride home to the farm. Bob
