hydraulic fittings leak question

I have been doing some clearing and log dragging with my case 455c crawler. I must have bumped a hydraulic line clearing and its dripping off the 4 in one cylinder some. Does it do any good to tighten a hydraulic line fitting or does it make it worse? Can you repair them or do you just have to go get a new line made up?

It is rare for tightening to stop the leak. But won't hurt to try...

Usually though the leak is a cracked line, especially if it's been hit. Just be careful tightening a taper pipe thread, if it's cracked, it could break off in the threaded hole!

I have used a premium paste pipe dope and get the connections "goodentite". On used fittings, wash threads with Berryman's Chem tool or such to blow out any oil. Dope seals better on dry threads. I know it's not rated for 2500# but it gums up the cracks and works anyway, way better (for me) than dry threads, even where I am using "water pipes" on cylinders on implements.
