I have had this unstyled G up for sale for about a month now. I have had over a dozen people showing interest, and I think each and every one are scammers. They all want to pay in bank drafts, money orders and the like. The latest on wants to pay with a bank transfer. I know nothing of these transfers, are they good?

i would insist on cash only. Too many scammers out there looking to take advantage.

So do they want to pay this way before their shipper shows up to ship it to Nigeria for them?

Tell them they can take possession of the tractor
after the check or MO clears and you have the
money in your account. This is common

Check with your bank before you do it and that's if you do it. Bank transfers are done between banks and he has to have an account in that bank and once he sends the money the bank pulls it out of his account and he can't stop payment.

Has any of them come and looked at the G???? Are they locals who wants to get a cashiers check on a bank with a branch in your town??? Will any of them call you or just email Bull S##t??? answer these questions and the rest will be easy!!!

You don't have to give him your account info period. He gives you his banks name and the transaction is done between the banks (he doesn't need to know your account number). Your bank can tell you if his bank is good or not.

I told a buyer "Cash Only", but he showed up and wanted to give me his personal check. I told him "No Check". So we went to his bank and he withdrew the cash. $4,500 makes a pretty thick wallet, but it took away the risk for me.

I only carry cash as last resort. I have only did cash transaction several times and took my buddies Smith & Wesson with me.

Sold my brother's truck cash-only, and many of the $100's were actually legit. Many they made up in the back room. Make SURE you check all the bills with one of those pens.

A cashier's check takes 30 days to clear after you get the money. It it bounces the bank comes after you, not the person who gave you the check.

I guess it is why I love to read all the knowledge on this board. I deal a lot in used equipment and probably 70% or more is done bank to bank wire transfer. Real common and no problem. If you want to try have him give you HIS bank and let your bank contact his bank for payment. Overseas wire transfer used to take two or three days but now I can sell a unit to an individual in London and lots of time the money be in my bank the same day. So far I have never had a wire transfer canceled and that is not so with cashier checks. They can be canceled if the sender is willing to put up a bond. Cash is pretty much out when you go to dealing in a unit that cost more than a few thousand. IRS makes all banks report any withdrawal or deposit of over 10 thousand and who want to go thru that hassle. And there is the case of the Florida couple that went to buy a car with cash, you always risk getting knocked in the head.

(quoted from post at 16:40:00 07/03/16) Anyone you've ever written a check to has your bank and account information.
Yep, nothing special about your bank account number.
It's just an address in the banking system.

Every time you wrote a check, you gave someone you account number.

I always tell them if they want to write a check. Make it out to themselves, go cash it then bring me the cash. Easy!

I did a bank transfer for a semi I sold. took him down to my bank they handled everything. When I walked out of the bank it was in my account.

To all those who say cash only, I understand where you are coming from.

But......

You are asking a person to travel a far ways, with $2000 to $5000 of cash in his pocket, and drive out into strange country roads and show up on your doorstep. With you knowing he has a pile of cash in his pocket. To your strange place, to meet a stranger.

Just think about that a tad bit, from the view of a buyer?

Perhaps that might be why some of you only seem to get scammers? Honest folk get a little skidish of -your- terms, and what kind of a person are you?

Just something to consider, as we move forward in this world full of scammers. On both sides of a transaction.....

Paul

You are right if you have to pay cash you do get a little skidish. That's why I take somebody with and also carry.

Bank transfer or cash. I like the bank better because I don't like the idea that somebody knows I have a pocket full of cash till I get to the bank.....he might have a buddy hiding behind a bush or such. If he won't go to the bank with you then you don't want him to have your tractor.

Bought my logsplitter off craigslist cash only deal a few years ago. Had to go about 40-50 miles from home to get it. Took my BIL with me. I had a 9mm in the console and him a 40 in the glovebox. After the guy and I decided on price I walked back to truck to get $ and my BIL just watched for any funny business. Only funny part was as soon as guy got cash in hand he went straight into the house and we were left standing in his driveway on our own. Figured he was watching out the windows as we loaded and tied down.
