I'm doing regular maintainence on the
unit,however it is a real pain getting
on top and taking the top off..has
anyone had good luck just blowing the
fins out without removing cover?

NO I haven't. I just cant see nor can I get my air blow gun in all the places and nooks and crannies that I can if the cover is removed. Sure, you can still do "some" cleaning with the cover on but not as well as if removed WELL DUH. With it removed I can oil the fan motor shaft on units so equipped also. On the inside its fairly easy to drop the cover down to service those foam strip return air filters. I usually only have to work up top maybe twice a year so I suck it up, crawl up there, and the wife dials 9 1 on the phone and stands there.

I don't have a Rooftop ac, but I have worked on many window shakers. If they are not taken apart and cleaned annually, this is what you may find inside. Keep in mind, conditions are right for mold and you will breath the air full of mold. I use bleach, only way to clean it.

Sure, no reason the truck cant tow a boat behind lol For three years I towed a car which was towing a golf cart trailer behind and never had a problem nor did cops bother me BUT THATS JUST TOO LONG AND UNASAFE now I limit it to one tow (truck with golf cart in bed).

Ok thanks..have you found an alternative to the inside vent strips? I have been cutting furnace vents to fit..my unit is at work and exposed to a lot of dust.. I change em weekly.
 
Hey, I like that idea of cutting up furnace filters versus those washable foam RV rooftop return air filters, I think I will try that. THANKS
