Bucket dosen't work IH 674

If you have the loader plumbed into the rear valves then, you are pushing the lever to the float position. Don't push it so far. If you have the joystick lever then it is in the oil. IH never had much for hydraulics. Pumps to small for loader work.
Our 574 same tractor has the power beyond plate with the joystick on it. The bucket is floppy till it builds pressure on the cylinders. Has been that way since new in 72. Dealer was not much help either.

Has it always been this way, or something new?

If a new problem, it could be the piston has come off the rod of a cylinder.

It has dual hand levers. What type of hydrolic oil should I use if I replace the oil and do you know how much, part number for filter?
Steve the tractor is new to me so I wouldn't know how long it has been doing this

What model loader do you have? We have a 674 with an IH 2250 loader. It works good. How many lines go to the bucket cylinder? Do you have one on each end of the bucket?

If the hoses and lines from the cylinders attach to the control valve, the valve may be set to single acting or float. If the valve is not adjustable, the valve
may not be 2 way. If the hoses/lines are connected to a return to the reservoir, it is set up for no down pressure. Jim

Do you just jam the levers into the detent position or do you "feather" them to control the loader?

By detent, I mean where they click and stay in position. By feather, I mean move them gently and slightly.

Never "Jamb" anything, makes for rough treatment. Generally nice and easy and there is no detent, push forward and release, it returns to neutral position.

My question is if you keep holding the lever for a bit, will it eventually pressurize the cylinder. With the small pump on that tractor, when you tilt the bucket, the weight of the bucket probably pushes the return fluid out faster than the pump can supply the pressure side, thus floppy. Operating at low rpm's of course make it much worse.
