sediment bowls

How hard would it be for some company on some continent to make one that didn't leak? Oh yeah, it would require some precision.

I usually just do away with them and pipe the fuel out of the tank and use an inline filter that way the bottle neck for anything is at the filter not in the tank.

The bowls dont leak but the holders sure get warped from over tightening. I use rubber gaskets from NAPA and the screen making sure the holder isnt warped and no leaks.

Over tightening is usually the culprit. It warps the base. Finger tighten only. If you take a pair of pliers to it,it's ruined instantly.

It takes some skill to properly install one. Not saying that I necessarily have that skill, but I've got "made in China" sediment bowl assemblies on 2 of my Farmalls. They do not leak.

not only is this site great for info but a good place to gripe too. each of the 3 leaked in a different place. after coming in and posting that gripe and taking a deep breath I went back and got everything right. no leaks!I agree with all the advice and had tried those things and finally it all aligned. I was almost to the rip it out part which is still not a bad idea. thanks again.

all it takes is a new gasket.i buy cork ones by the bunch as that was the best time saving idea. just finger tight and no leaks.and the bowl is a way better idea than those stupid inline filters on a gravity feed system.

I never seem to have any problems with the sediment bowls I have and I have a good many. I use the cork/rubber gaskets that I buy form O'Reilly's part number 398. Sock it in gas for a couple minutes and then install it and no problems

First make sure the nut turns freely on the threads so you don't get a false sense of tightness even if it is new. Then when you tighten it, give the bowl a little back and forth twist just before it is tight. No need to twist a lot, just a little tweek. It seems to settle the bowl and gasket into place.

It seems like the made in China stuff is not quite up to snuff compared to a factory original, but with a little finesse, it usually can be made to work. We really have no choice.

Sediment bowels are designed wrong as even when turned off there is fuel pressure against the petcock packing. Shouldn't be that way.
