Vapor barrier under grain bin concrete w/ air floor

Under the concrete floor on the past three bins I have built I have put a 4 mil plastic vapor barrier. Each has had an air floor. Started bin number 4 last week and somewhere I might have read that a vapor barrier is not needed on a bin with an air floor. The main floor is built on top of at least 6 inches of course packed fill. Is there still an advantage to having a vapor barrier? What do you guys think??

Water soaked concrete can spall when it freezes. The cost of the Barrier is irrelevamt so why not use it. Jim

Would say the less moisture the better. Plastic is cheep and you can put down a heavier plastic you know.

I had one dealer install a drying bin in "76...I"ve added 5 other bins since, some air floor, most without. No plastic under any of them...no issues.

Vapor barrier is always recommended, Stops upward migration of moisture for years to come. Also, for one thing, it keeps the moisture inside the slab as is cures, it does not dry out on the bottom that way, and the H2O is needed as part of the chemical reaction in the curing process.
