seems like this august is chock full of meetings and events ,..and Dr appointments,,. I would bet some of you are heavily involved in your community,,.. be it county or township govm't , or church committees, scouts and or 4h leader or FFA ,or even groups such as your local tractor club ,,,. just got home from our annual Harrison County Farm Bureau mtgand Banguet ,Tuesday I had to take my sara to Detroit to fix her passport and visited henry Ford Museum ,,.Wonderful time , I am a county councilman , and it is budget time ,. that will take about 6 evenings ,I am also a member of the Lanesville Heritage Weekend ,.and do all I can to make things run smooth..just finishedour annual church picnic 2 sundays ago,.. between doing chemo and running back in for blood tests and a supercharger I-V I have got no time to be bored ,.. what all are you fellas involved in in your community or for that matter state,..

Let's see. County medical care facility board, county human services board, county department of public works board, trustee at the Elks, county construction coders appeals board. And I'm still trying to farm a few acres. Nope, got nothing to do in my retirement and find time to play with old tractors.
There is One Already ,. Thanx for responding Paul,. county construction coders appeals bd ,,. yep,. we call that board of zoning appeals here ,probably similar ,. I spent 8 yrs there ,, and I liked it because we had good people on the board ,,.. I am currently on the planning and zoning bd ,.and the local farmland preservation bd ,.the George Rogers Clark Land Trust,.the historical society of harrison county , cattlemans association too ,.no wonder I still have fields of 1st cut hay yet to do ,..

County Commissioner. And I hear you on the budget. Some of our budget meetings started at 8:30 and ran to 6:00 with a half hour for lunch and a couple of 5 minute breaks. Long time to sit in a chair, even though they're comfortable. We wrap the budget up next Tuesday.
As a Commissioner, I'm also on the Boards of Directors of a public health organization and a two county solid waste unit. Also liaisons to our County Attorney,Commission on Aging, County Buildings and Grounds Dept., County Emergency Manager, Veteran's Service Officer, Public Transportation Dept., Zoning and Weed Administrator, Abandoned Cemetery Committee, and a couple of Natural Resource Districts. Earlier this month, I had six different meetings in one week.

way to go Goose, thank you for your service ,.Where are you a county commissioner ?..yes I am familiar with all those mtgs with all the depts.,.hope you have a lot of good people in those depts. ,,.sure makes life easier , and those days not so long ,.I try to stack mtgs, and I f I only knew which day it was gonna be hotter than hades , or rainy all day for scheduling ,LOL,.a couple weeks ahead of time that sure would a been nice ,. LOL I was a county Commissioner here in southern IND, from 2002 -7 ,sure took a lopt of time away from my farm and I ended up turning my home improvement binez to my son . then iwent to the county council,.. half the pay and headaches , twice the fun,. but in a couple yrs I am gonna run for commish again

Besides all of the above, we're in the middle of building a new $16.5 million criminal justice center, which we badly need. We're short on beds for male prisoners, plus we have no facilities for female prisoners. If the City or County brings a female prisoner in, all we can do is book her and haul her off to an adjoining county that does have facilities for females. In 2014, we spent $200,000 just boarding prisoners elsewhere, plus Deputies time and miles for transporting.
Besides a new, larger, up to code, jail, the new center will include the District Court, County Court, 911 call center, Offices for the County Attorney and her staff, and a few others all in one building. We Commissioners already have dibs on the old District Court room in the courthouse 'cause we five are cramped in our present meeting room.
I'm enjoying it.

for the same reasons in your county,. we were forced to build our justice center /jail in 1994,,.similar to yours , it cost over 12 million ,. and we have it all paid forjust last yr ,. ,are there 5 commissioners in seward co Nebraska ? we only have 3 and 3 districts ,, and 7 council members that release or hold backthemoney the commissioners need torepair his own roads ,,. but everyone like wise is in the same position ,, in Harrison county money is split equaly for each district .all new hires require a majority vote . and also the dept head must give their approval .. we are elected county wide ,. and are in charge of county wide services like the ones in your own county.. goose I don't feel rite calling a county commissioner goose ,,. LOL , but honestly ,.if you ever swing by the lousville area ,.. it would be a honor if you would pay my sara and I a visit ,, perhaps we can give you the 50 cent local farm tour lol, we live in the big hangy down part of ind,. just south /west of Louisville ky
