kawasaki 15hp twin engine

Got a little problem with the 15hp Kawasaki engine in our lawn mower (husqvarna). It ran fine the other day (last week) when we mowed the lawn, but today started it up, and now black smoke and no power at all. Took the carb of and drained it, and put the air line into all the little orifices i could see, but no real change. Some times it starts great and then dies a few seconds later, other times it starts ok and then smokes black , playing with the choke sometimes makes it worse, some times makes it better. Oh and it has electric connection on the bottom of the carb (fuel shut off????), and a ground wire also attached.

Any and all help appreciated.

Tat connection at the bottom of the carb is the main jet solenoid and if it goes bad it can and will cause odd problems. On most that have those I find an adjustable main jet setting screw and put it in and that fixes the problem. Can also be caused by a badly clogged air filter

If you have the single barrel Nikki carburetor, there is a good chance you have fuel bypassing the inlet needle. There is a small o-ring that seals the white plastic float support assembly to the main housing and it is probably damaged. The only way I know to get that o-ring is from a Kawasaki dealer. Most o-rings in the assortments are too big and not made to withstand gasoline either.

P.S. there is also a good chance there is gas in your oil too.

I needed a carburetor repair kit for my Husky chain saw. I found one on line for $23.00. Right next to it was a whole carb for $25.00.

Thought that was the ticket for a Stihl chainsaw... Whole carb was only a few dollars more than the kit.

When I got the carb it was a "will fit" knockoff that didn't fit. It had the right connections and bolt spacing but there were protrusions on the main casting that interfered with the chainsaw. No way it was going to fit.

Luckily the diaphragm was close enough so I transferred it over to the OEM carb, and the saw ran fine after that.

Found almost the same for a carb for a Tecumseh 5hp. New perfectly functioning carb was $14 on Amazon. Even included the gasket. Not worth tearing into the old one for that price when the kits run anywhere from $9 to $11.

thanks all, and Old especially, took the full shut off off and replaced with a bolt, so far it seems to run
