Boiler removal

I had an old boiler in the basement. It was replaced and the contractor could not get the old one out. I spun the back blade around and used it to hoist the boiler up the steps and out of the trap door in the mud room. That thing must be more than 500 pounds.

WHOAAAAA NELLI!!! Next thing you want to take on is move a small mountain or something? Good engineering there bud! Tell us the scrap value sometime.

I assume creative asbestos abatement 101 also applied here. Old boilers are loaded with asbestos.

That is the cast iron heat exchanger that you are looking at. Any asbestos would have been between the boiler jacket and a sheet metal cover over it. It would have been covering the pipes coming from it as well.

I have a similar boiler but not near an easy exit point. I suppose one day I will have to remove it. Mine has white plaster all over it. I assume the plaster is asbestos. Can't imagine I could ever sell the place with it still in the cellar.
