Loading tires????

Just got my first ATV for the farm. I was thinking should I load the tires like I do my tractors for better traction. I live in eastern KY where the land is hilly and steep. What do y'all think about this????

BTW, it's a honda 650 rincon with 25/10/12 tires.

2X, that. Atv,s are set up to be light and agile. Little or big tractors get traction from weight. Really aggressive tires are the best answer.

Although I agree on not filling the tires, I beg to differ on the argument of reduced stability. Filling the small (relative to the height of the vehicle) diameter tires, lowers the center of gravity of the vehicle and increases its stability.

Stability involves a lot more than just lowering the CG. If the suspension can no longer handle the heavy, unsprung mass of loaded tires the machine could be unstable just traversing rough ground. Accelerating and decelerating the greater inertia would also be harder on the drivetrain and chassis. It's a different deal than with a slow, non-suspended farm tractor.

I have road a many a mile out your way I would ask the locals what is the best tire. Out my way aggressive is the way to go when we were in Tennessee and WVA the locals were amazed at the aggressive tires we had. We always thought a less aggressive tire would be better your way. It did not take long for use to let air out to soften the ride. Those tires were useless on rocks but gave the mud ell.

Wouldn't that sort of defeat the whole purpose of buying a 4 wheeler over say a compact tractor ? You may compromise high speed travel and floatation. Plus when you do roll it over on you it's lighter to get off of you.

I say no, but from a standpoint that you're not going to get enough fluid in the tires to do any good. Maybe 20lbs per tire? That's not enough to even bother with on a machine that probably weighs what, 700lbs?

If, as you do, the running dynamics are made part of the equation, you are right. Spatial mass distribution, suspension stiffness, damping, load variations, etcetera, come into play.
Fun chat! Take care.

I would be concerned about the sloshing effect of the fluid, with so little mass of the machine.

I live in east central KY, I went with Dirt devil XT on my foreman 450s most of the time never even had to use 4wd. I like the solid rear axle not as tippy on side hills.
