Block heater?

I just bought a kubota L2650 from my mom a few weeks ago. The temp is getting colder. We don't get extreme cold but we do get lows in the 20s an 30s. I don't use the tractor daily. Thought about putting a block heater in it to where I could plug it in if I know I will use it when it does get cold. I could get a kit for about $50.

I use the lower radiator
hose brand made by Kat's.
TSC or AutoZone sell
them. I have three
kubotas with them.
Although all three would
start below zero without
them.

I have had several Skid steer loaders with Kubota motors. The block heater was just an element that screwed into the cylinder head. You just remove a plug and screw the heater in and install the cord. If there is a kit to do this on your tractor than I would do that over the radiator hose type. The hose type waste heat by heating water outside of the cylinder block where it is really needed.

I also use the Katz lower hose unit in both of my small (F-2000,B7100) Kubotas. One is plugged in all winter (SE MI) and I cover the engine with a heavy old quilt (in barn). The other is only plugged in if needed. Makes a huge difference on start up and the cab heater works from the get go. Started doing this 10 years ago and never saw a difference in my electric bill. My theory is; once it is warm, it takes very little electricity to keep it warm. By covering, it also warms up the hydraulics and fuel.

The one that threads in the block is the one I was looking at. I looked at those Katz heaters. My boss is thinking about getting one of those for his hunting truck.

My Woods mower has a Kubota D 722 diesel. Takes a Katz freeze plug heater in back of block. Finding one that fits is a major trial. Internal parts inside water jacket make a very difficult to fit. Especially since Katz was building a mirror image of what was needed. My mower also gas a snowblower sand a cab so cold weather starting is a plus!
