Remote start on the tractor?

The other thread got me thinking, it shouldn't be to difficult. A 2 button remote, you hold button 1 to warm the glow plugs for 10 seconds, then button 2 for the starter. It won't start the accessories until you get on and turn the key, but it will get the engine and fluids warm while you get ready.

China has kits with remotes fairly cheap. I would get a set of relays to avoid running glow plug and starter hot lines directly through the cheap chinese relay, but it should work. You can still use key functionality for normal starting, or warm it up for 10min, then hop on, turn the key for accessories, and have everything ready to go.

People have heaters, radios, etc in their tractors these days, why not add remote start?

I would not see why it would not work, would want an oil pressure interlock to shutdown engine if not met.

The tractor I would do it for is hydro and everything is flat here. Oil pressure is a good idea. could be wired into the starter relay part.

(quoted from post at 14:30:25 12/14/16) be sure it is out of gear when you get off the last time.
You would be by-passing all saftey switches.

It's an older tractor, there aren't any safety switches, just common sense. I can start it now by just putting in the key and turning while standing beside it.

There's already autostarts on the market that will operate the glow plugs, then start a pickup truck with a diesel and manual transmission, so no need to "reinvent the wheel".

You WOULD need some kind of a "neutral" sensor, this is accomplished in several ways with the unit for pickups.

When the wheel is hundreds of dollars compared to some parts I can throw together for $10, I'll re-invent the wheel. adding a neutral safety is a good call, typically when I park it I move the hydro range selector out of high to neutral, it goes H-N-M-N-L for the hydro speed. Adding a check in there to make sure it's in a neutral shouldn't be to bad.

We have a 4320 compact jd. Absolutely won't move if not someone in seat. Hydro petals just seem to unhook. I also think takes oil pressure to make it run.

I think you are wasting your time and money. Remote start that thing up in a building and smoke it all up so you can't even find the tractor. Why, just because you can???? What happens if the ludraulic lever on your loader doesn't happen to be in a neutral position, or the hydro pedal is not quit centered when the sensor says it is. Just go out and put your butt on the seat and start it and then run it outside and go away and let it warm up, if you feel a need to. May save you from replacing a door or a your tool cabinet behind the tractor.
Just my 2 cents.

when I was little all out tractors and trucks had remote start..Me! Same with the tv before remotes came out.

I would dot even have one in a vehical. And If you start and leave run your car or truck setting in your yard and doors locked without you being in the drivers seat can net you a ticket to court plus a fine. That is the law in Lima, Ohio just 15-20 mile from me. Been several warnings in the paper over the years.
